TWO-MINUTE DESK-SIDE RESET
Goal: Re-establish load acceptance and glide in the gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and quiet the tensor fasciae latae (TFL) before standing.
0:00–0:40 — Gluteus Medius Decompression (40 seconds)
Position
-
Stand beside your desk or wall
-
Painful hip closest to the desk
-
Desk edge, fist, or forearm contacts the lateral hip just above the greater trochanter
Target muscle
-
Gluteus medius
Action
-
Slight knee bend on the painful side
-
Let your pelvis gently sink sideways into the contact
-
Slow nasal breathing
-
Tiny micro-circles or stillness
Cue
“Let the side hip soften and widen.”
Why
This restores baseline tone and circulation in glute med so it can stabilize again when you stand.
0:40–1:20 — Gluteus Minimus Precision Reset (40 seconds)
Position
-
Shift contact slightly forward and deeper than glute med
-
Still lateral hip, but just anterior to the trochanter
Target muscle
-
Gluteus minimus
Action
-
Same soft knee bend
-
Even gentler pressure
-
No digging
-
Add a subtle pelvic roll forward/back (very small)
Cue
“Let the deep hip stop bracing.”
Why
Glute minimus is the most common source of trochanter-level pain and often re-fires pain when standing after sitting.
1:20–1:50 — TFL Down-Regulation (30 seconds)
Position
-
Move contact to the front-outer hip crease
-
Just inferior and lateral to the ASIS
Target muscle
-
Tensor fasciae latae (TFL)
Action
-
Light pressure only
-
Slow exhale
-
Let the thigh subtly drift back (hip extension bias)
Cue
“Front-side effort can let go.”
Why
TFL dominance inhibits glute med and pulls tension laterally through the hip when you stand.
1:50–2:00 — Load Acceptance Reset (10 seconds)
Position
-
Stand upright
-
Feet hip-width
-
Shift weight gently onto the painful side
Target system
-
Gluteus medius + minimus (functional re-engagement)
Action
-
Slight knee bend
-
Pelvis level
-
One slow breath
Cue
“This side can carry me.”
What this reset does (important)
-
Turns glute med back on
-
Releases glute minimus guarding
-
Quietly shuts down TFL overdrive
-
Prevents that sharp lateral hip pain on standing
This is not stretching.
It is neuromuscular permission.
