The Thinking Behind the Work
Corrective bodywork recognizes whole-body relationships.
The body adapts. When one region becomes restricted or imbalanced, other regions compensate so that we can continue to stand, move, work, and function.
Over time, those compensations can create tension far from where the original imbalance began. A painful wrist or hand, for example, may be influenced by patterns extending through the arm, shoulder, trunk, pelvis, and core.
Consider the relationship between digestion and headaches.
We often think of headaches as originating in the head, neck, or shoulders. Yet the digestive system and nervous system are in constant communication, and digestive disturbances can sometimes accompany or influence headache symptoms.
Taum's approach recognizes the importance of the abdominal region and its relationship to whole-body function. Drawing upon nearly five decades of experience, he incorporates visceral techniques intended to support the body's natural movement and rhythm, while considering the relationships between digestion, breathing, posture, muscular tension, and the nervous system.
This doesn't mean that every headache begins in the digestive system. It means that understanding the body requires us to look beyond the immediate symptom and consider the relationships that may be contributing to it.
Learning to recognize these relationships changes the way we work. Instead of simply treating the place that hurts, we begin asking what the body is adapting to and why.
The Roots of This Approach
Much of the thinking behind this work comes from my nearly 50 years of studying, practicing, and teaching the work of Lauren Berry. Lauren taught us to look beyond the location of a symptom and consider the relationships, compensations, and structural patterns influencing the body as a whole.
Understanding chronic pain patterns
Chronic pain often involves more than the area where symptoms are felt. Muscular tension, compensation, nerve irritation and imbalance can help explain why pain persists or keeps returning.

Movement does not stop at the abdominal wall.
Restriction within the abdomen can influence tension and movement throughout the body.

The human body is mostly fluid.
Every cell in the body lives and functions in a fluid environment.
Healthy fluid movement supports whole-body health.

The knee does not function in isolation.
It receives, redirects, and transfers force through the body.
