The classroom environment..
  • Classroom should accommodate 1 massage table ( you provide) per 2 students with working space around each.

  • For a joint/clay class, room should also accommodate one banquet type table per 4 students with working space around each.( you provide)

  • 800 sq ft is a workable space (bigger is better), with adequate ventilation and as much natural light as possible.

  • Appropriate seating...one chair per student.

  • The room should have one blank wall or large screen on which to project graphic images.

  • One banquet type table with nearby power supply to set up a laptop and Power Point projector approximately 10-15 feet from screen/wall.

  • We will require the space from 8:00 to 6:00 each day for set up and closure.

  • These are advanced techniques and as such, I require that each student must have received prior basic massage/bodywork training. The California state basic is acceptable.

  • Facilities where courses are held are to be handicap accessible. When a student calls and identifies himself or herself as disabled, instructor/sponsor will discuss their needs and how to best accommodate them in the classroom. Student must give instructor/sponsor notification of special needs prior to the beginning of the class allowing adequate time for reasonable allowances to be made. Allowances for special needs will be met as long as they do not impose an "undue burden" on the instructor as listed in the ADA.
I do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

  • Facilities where courses are held require adequate parking, clean restrooms, and nearby restaurants.

Please review my resume for a brief overview of my background and qualifications

To provide you with a bit more flavor of my work, I suggest reading my published articles in Massage Magazine and American Fitness Magazine. I can supply copies for class promotion .These should heighten technique recognition, class participation, marketability and public awareness of this highly effective system of massage.

This unique curriculum includes state of the art anatomy presentations that incorporate Power Point. For example, when I am guiding a classroom of students thru corrective massage techniques that address mid thoracic tensions, distortions and adhesions, I project a life size anatomy graphic which serves as a very useful visual reference.

Possibly one of Lauren Berry's greatest contributions to Massage therapy was in recognizing that muscles, tendons and ligaments have an optimal anatomical position and can be shifted off position via trauma, adaptation, etc.

Through recognizing, respecting and responding to that functional organization, therapists can often reduce tension and pain rather quickly. The Back class provides a powerful introduction to The Lauren Berry Method® of Corrective Massage, including both a regional and specific in-depth focus on the specific anatomy influencing this important and common area of concern.

I suggest we begin with the Back Class, although others are available.

Muscles to be studied will include; Psoas, Biceps Femoris, Quadratus Lumborum, Obturator Internus, Tensor Fascia Latae, Gracilis, Iliocostalis Lumborum and Thoracis, Longissimus Thoracis, Sacrotuberous Ligament, Sartorius, Adductor Magnus....and much more.

Brief Outline for the Back class.

My introduction includes a  view of muscle health and the role of adhesion, distortion and misplacement when the body expresses  stress and tension.

I then go thru approx 20 of the primary muscles frequently involved in our clients back problems. As each muscle is discussed, the student has a reference handout that is coordinated with a Power Point presentation relevant to the muscle being discussed.

With each muscle I present the common tensions, adhesions, distortions and misplacements associated with that specific muscle. I then demonstrate techniques and procedures pertinent to each muscle.

These soft tissue manipulation techniques include procedures for:

  • Reducing adhesions and distortions

  • Correcting misplaced muscles

  • Active and passive stretches

  • Pin and stretch procedures

Students then go to the massage tables to practice while I go from table to table guiding them "one on one".

This sequence is followed thru each of the muscles.

The final portion of the class includes practicing on each other and reviewing the procedures. This formula has served very well and also allows flexibility within each new group. This format is also applied throughout The Joint series.

Students emerge from these trainings with an increased degree of 'tactile vision'.
